The one-day “Empowering Technology of Metaverse” Seminar was held successfully on 19 April 2023 (Wednesday) at Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and recorded a high attendance. They were interested in the latest research development and technological insights among ecosystem builders focusing on Metaverse.
This was the first SNA in-person event after COVID-19, the seminar was organized by SNA, co-organised by IEEE Electron Devices Society, supported by Asia America MultiTechnology Association Pearl River Delta Chapter, Association of Blockchain Development, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Cooperation Association, HKSTP, IEEE Computer Society, InvestHK and Technology Incubation Network.
4 honorable guests from SNA, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and IEEE Electron Devices Society gave opening remarks to kick off the seminar and in the morning session, 4 speakers have been invited to share insights on different topics. Mr. Andy Wong discussed how to capture business opportunities in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology ecosystem; Mr. Craig B. Peterson then shared outside-of-the-box big Metaverse leaps ahead; Dr. Charles Cheung shared Generative AI and it’s application to industrial Metaverse; and Mr. Hon Ming Keung shared how to enable Metaverse with technologies. After that, a panel discussion has been arranged to discuss on how semiconductor and deep technology shape the Metaverse investment landscape in Hong Kong. Dr. Patrick Hung, Co-Chair, Incubation Sub-Committee at Semiconductor Nanotechnology Alliance was a moderator of this session, and Mr. James Ieong, Chairman and Founding Partner of Pagoda Capital and Mr. Rick Wang, Managing Director, Asset Allocation, and Investment Management Centre at Everbright Limited and Mr. Isaac Wong, Assistant Fund Manager at eFusion Capital joined the panel to discuss.
In the afternoon session, 6 speakers were invited to deep dive into deep technology, chip innovation for Metaverse, network infrastructure, smart optics and applications. Dr. Ryan Chung shared how to accelerate seamless immersion with deep technology; Profession Pan Hui shared how to empower the Metaverse with Generative AI; Dr. Kyle Wong explained how semiconductor play a key role in the development of the Metaverse; following that, Professor Ping Li shared real-time realistic digital hair animation of various hair styles; Mr. Kenny Chan then shared emerging sensing and display Tech for Metaverse; finally Dr. Hongwei Kan shared emerging smart_xPU architecture in the era of computing and network convergence.
The Seminar came to finale with a Demonstration session. MUXIC Limited demonstrated a Metaverse concert, Meridian Innovation Limited showcased thermal imaging, Simbury Limited presented AR, VR, UWB and Edge AI while ASTRI demonstrated smart optics.
The participants were inspired by speakers’ exchange in trending industry topics, Metaverse and AI were built upon creative talents, innovative technologies, collaborations and government support.
